Nautical Information

Sailing Paros - Antiparos Strait: Sail the strait during the daytime. It is advisable that the first time you cross be with fair weather, so you have the opportunity to study the strait whilst passing and place your own "landmarks". Keep to a low speed and a man on the forecastle, to observe the sea and report any changes in its colour. In all cases the echo sounder should be on and vigilance should be exercised. The passage of the strait is to the west of Remmatonísi islet, by means of two alignments. One is the alignment of the north-west coast of the Remmatonísi islet with the south-east coast of the Sálango islet (Alignment A, Φ1) and the other is the alignment of the east coast of Magrines islet with the rocky islet of Mávros Toúrlos (Alignment B, Φ2). To sail the strait from South to North, from the southern waypoint (see chart) keep to alignment A and upon reaching alignment B continue along it. Keep to alignment B until rounding the Sálango islet and then pass to the middle of Sálango and Magrinés islets, with approximate magnetic course 044° towards the northern waypoint. If you sail the strait from N towards S, then start from the north waypoint and aim to the middle between Sálagko and Magrinés islets, until you get to alignment B. Further to that, follow the opposite directions, having the alignments at your stern.
