History

The island of Samothrace is the Thracian Sea. It is located in the northeastern part of the Aegean Sea between Lemnos, Imbros and Thassos. The highest peak of the island reaches 287 meters which defines it as the highest Greek island in the Aegean Sea after Crete and Evia. Samothrace is known worldwide because of the famous ancient Greek statue of victory that was found on the island in 1863 and today is exhibited in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The peculiarity of the island due to the wild untouched nature with steep mountains, its rich flora and fauna, forests with trees, pines and chestnut trees, fountains, waterfalls, ponds and the turquoise waters of the sea.
